Doctor of Nursing Practice Program
BSN Entry to DNP: Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
The AGACNP BSN to DNP gives the registered nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree the ability to earn the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree without first obtaining a master’s-level nursing degree. The BSN to DNP plan of study requires a minimum of 65 credit hours completed in eight semesters of full-time study. A part time plan of study is not currently available.
The program is structured so that students complete AGACNP and core DNP coursework first, and then transition into DNP-specific practice courses. Students will be eligible to take the AGACNP certification exam upon completion of specialty course work and will be doctorally prepared nurse practitioners upon graduation. All students are prepared for the full scope of practice as acute care nurse practitioners, but students may apply to further refine their program of study in critical care, through our intensivist focus option. Acceptance into the intensivist focus requires residence in the greater Middle Tennessee area (MTA) prior to the start of the AGACNP clinical sequence (Spring, Year 2). Applicants with at least two years of RN experience are eligible for the distance learning format and do not need to relocate to Nashville. Applicants with less than two years RN work experience must complete the entire program of studies in Nashville.
Please note that acceptance into the intensivist focus requires residence in the Middle Tennessee/Nashville area prior to the start of the AGACNP clinical sequence.
