Orientation Phases
New Faculty Orientation is divided into phases
Phase 1 - Before arrival on campus
Tasks
- Complete HR/payroll paperwork with Bobbi McReynolds, Administrative Officer
- Complete Nurse Education Self-assessments
- Email to Betsy Kennedy, Assistant Dean for Non-Tenure Track Faculty Affairs & Advancement
- Complete faculty bio form for website
- Email to Megan Clancy, Web Designer/Developer
- Gather licensure, certifications, official transcripts, updated CV, and info for faculty file.
- Bring with you to campus for meeting with Bobbi McReynolds
- Clinical faculty contact Rita Tejeda to submit immunization records
Review
- Orientation goals and objectives
- VUSN Organizational Chart note: VUnetID and password required for access
Schedule
- Day(s) to visit campus, meeting with Bobbi McReynolds, Jackie Dawson, Betsy Kennedy, and Academic Director.
Phase 2 - Initial campus orientation visit
Tasks
- Human resources, schedule VU benefits orientation, payroll (I-9), email list, submit items for faculty file, StarPanel paperwork (clinical faculty only)
- VUSN targeted tour with Jackie Dawson: mailroom, copy rooms, snack machines, Vanderbilt Employee Credit Union, work space, staff support information, business cards
- ID badge - contact Bobbi McReynolds
- Space, keys, facility information, for building access after ID badge is created
- Immunizations and other requirements for clinical teaching at Occupational Health as needed
- Frist Nursing Informatics Center for IT (computer, Outlook (email and calendar), phone, Brightspace training, VPN, I/J drives, faculty photo, tech tools/knowledge base, Box, set up phone, tablets
- Assistant Dean for Non-Tenure Track Faculty Affairs & Advancement (teaching assignment, academic role, faculty expectations, rank behaviors, promotion, annual evaluations, direct to point people for specific questions (e.g. course portfolios, remote proctor), specific teaching needs (F2F, online, clinical), Mentoring Group, resources, professional development opportunities
- Room scheduling
- Parking Information
Phase 3 – Ongoing
Tasks (VUnetID as required)
- Orientation to assigned courses
- Attendance at New Faculty Orientation meetings
- Meetings wtih identified mentors (scheduled by new faculty member)
- Complete FERPA training
- Complete HIPAA training
- Complete CITI training (as indicated)
- Complete VU Conflict of Interest and Commitment
- VU Social Media Policy
Review
- Vanderbilt University faculty manual
- All VUSN Policies and Procedures including:
- Dress Code
- Emergency Operations
- Travel Policy
- Inclement Weather/Cancellation of Classes Policy
- Tech Knowledge Base
