Recognized for his leadership in palliative care. He developed the Adult Nurse Practitioner Program with a focus in palliative care utilizing local and nationally recognized sites for student preceptorships. He is an ordained Episcopalian minister. He was instrumental in developing the joint degree between the schools of nursing and divinity. His interdisciplinary work as evening chaplain with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s adult and children’s hospitals highlight the importance of the spiritual dimension in holistic health assessment and care.
