Recognized for successfully combining research, teaching and practice as well as working as a family nurse practitioner at the University of Washington Medical Center. Her M.N. and Ph.D. are from the University of Washington. She is nationally certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Specialist. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and received numerous awards, including A.N.A. Nurse Practitioner of the Year, N.O.N.P.F. Achievement in Research Award and the School of Nursing Excellence in Teaching Award. She was a pioneer nurse practitioner in Washington state while also pioneering the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, serving as an early president and board member. Most recently, she led the pioneering efforts to establish their Doctor of Nursing practice program. She has been involved with numerous research projects and has published extensively.
