Vanderbilt Assistant Dean for Academics, Generalist Nursing Practice, and Professor Mary Ann Jessee, MSN’95, PhD, RN, will be inducted as an Academy of Nursing Education fellow at the National League of Nursing Convocation on September 30.
The NLN Academy of Nursing Education selects fellows who make significant and lasting contributions to the field and who will serve as leaders in supporting the organization’s vision. Jessee’s induction recognizes her many contributions to nursing education, knowledge and the development of advanced practice nurses.
Jessee joined VUSN in 2003 and has been no stranger to high honors in nursing education, including multiple awards for Outstanding Contributions in Teaching and a Dean’s Award for Excellence in Academics. With multiple publications in nursing education journals, Jessee has a proven dedication to the field. She is an active researcher of clinical judgment development and evaluation, an active member of NLN, and works to benefit the Nurse Residency Program at VUMC. Her work has covered clinical coaching, clinical education theory and the development of a multidimensional learning environment survey.
Jessee also developed VUSN’s new Master of Nursing program, created the Integrated Clinical Education Theory framework for prelicensure clinical education at VUSN, helped make the prelicensure education program more inclusive and patient-centered, and developed and launched the International Consortium for Outcomes in Nursing Education.
In spring 2023, she received Vanderbilt’s highest nursing mentorship award, the Rebecca Clark Culpepper Award from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the School of Nursing. The award recognized Jessee’s mentorship of faculty, role in transforming VUSN’s prelicensure education, national impact and commitment to professional development for nurses.
