Barbara A. Given, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, the Visiting Ingram Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) and university distinguished professor at the Michigan State University College of Nursing, will lead the search committee for the next senior associate dean for research for VUSN.
The trans-institutional search committee will work with executive search firm Tyler & Company in the search for a successor to Senior Associate Dean for Research Ann F. Minnick, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, who has led VUSN’s research for nearly a decade. Minnick, the Julia Eleanor Blair Chenault Chair in Nursing, intends to concentrate on teaching, research and mentoring students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty once a successor is in place.
“Dr. Minnick is a brilliant researcher, administrator and colleague. We’ve been fortunate to have her direct our research function these past nine years,” said Dean Linda Norman, DSN, R.N., FAAN, the Valere Potter Menefee Professor of Nursing. “VUSN has grown significantly in our research and scholarship contributions under Dr. Minnick’s direction. Our postdoctoral program has expanded, the number of research active faculty has increased and the amount of external funding has grown.”
“The ideal candidate for our next senior associate dean for research will build on those strengths and help expand the research mission of the school, as well as support the overall Vanderbilt University dedication to expanding trans-institutional and externally supported scholarship,” Norman said.
Given, who also holds the Martha Rivers Ingram Chair in Nursing at Vanderbilt, is a world-recognized pioneer in oncology nursing. Her research interests include long-term cancer care, gerontology, cancer care/intervention research and symptom management. She has been a visiting professor at Vanderbilt University since 2008.
