Postdoctoral Opportunities

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) is pleased to announce an opening for two Postdoctoral Fellows in Oncology Nursing under the mentorship of Dr. Eun-Ok Im.

This full-time position provides a mentored training experience in cancer survivorship research and intervention development and implementation, preparing fellows for academic careers. Training opportunities will focus on cancer survivorship experiences, breast cancer, pain management, and technology-based approaches to symptom and pain management.

Position Responsibilities

Postdoctoral Fellows will have opportunities to:

• Oversee day-to-day research study activities
• Prepare research protocols and study materials
• Contribute to grant writing
• Assist with data collection and analysis
• Disseminate research findings
• Develop scientific manuscripts as lead author or co-author
• Present research findings at conferences
• Perform other related research activities

Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.

Overview of the Postdoctoral Program

VUSN offers a one-year postdoctoral fellowship to scientists who have completed a doctoral program (PhD) within the past two years. The VUSN postdoctoral fellowship provides an environment rich with experienced mentors and resources to support fellows’ growth as scientists and scholars.
Postdoctoral Fellows have access to resources to conduct their own research, including opportunities for publication and assistance with grant writing and project planning for the next stage of their research careers. Fellows receive individualized mentoring and training to develop the skills and competencies needed to become successful independent investigators in their fields.

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit the following:

• Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended
• Curriculum vitae (CV), including links to publications
• Three letters of recommendation, including one from a representative of the applicant’s dissertation committee. Letters should address the applicant’s scholarly abilities, areas for growth, and future potential in academia. Letters should be emailed directly from the recommender to eun.ok.im@vanderbilt.edu.
• Cover letter (2–5 pages, single-spaced) describing:
  • Previous research experience
  • Goals for postdoctoral training and career
  • Research focus or area of interest
  • Expectations and needs during mentorship
  • An idea for a potential research project to conduct during the postdoctoral training, feasible within approximately 1–2 years
  • Skills and potential contributions to a research team

Required Qualifications and Appointment Terms

• Applicants must hold a terminal degree (e.g., PhD) in nursing.
• Ehe position is a full-time postdoctoral appointment with an in-person/hybrid work schedule based at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of a second year contingent upon satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

This full-time position provides a mentored training experience in midlife women’s health research and intervention development and implementation, preparing fellows for academic careers. Training opportunities will focus on midlife women’s health issues, menopausal transition, depressive symptoms, physical activity, and technology-based approaches to symptom management.
