Nominations due for VU’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award
The annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award will be presented Monday, January 16, 2017, to a faculty or staff member in the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing or School of Medicine who truly emulates the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through his or her work.
This service can be in areas related to creating a better understanding between people of different backgrounds, working to enhance the economic and health status of individuals, or fostering a community at Vanderbilt symbolic of Dr. King’s teachings.
The award will be presented at the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Lecture during the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration. A committee of individuals from the School of Medicine, School of Nursing and Medical Center will serve as judges for the award.
All nominations are due by Thursday, January 12, 2017 and must include a letter of recommendation from the one nominating and the nominee’s resume. An overflow audience attended the January 14 VUSN Dean’s Diversity Lecture given by Holly and Eileen Forlenza. An estimated 250 students, faculty, staff and interested community members heard the presentation by Holly, a nonverbal motivational speaker, and her mother Eileen, an advocate for family involvement in health care.
