Williams recognized with student-voted Dean Colleen Conway-Welch Award

Associate Professor Ty Williams, MSN’03, DNP’12, recently received Vanderbilt’s Dean Colleen Conway-Welch Award. The student-selected recognition is bestowed upon a DNP faculty member who demonstrates noteworthy contributions to student learning, either through course instruction or by serving as a supportive advisor or mentor. In addition, the faculty member exemplifies expertise in their content area, models professional behaviors in scholarly activities, and fosters a culture of encouragement for scholarly pursuits.

In their nominations for Williams, students noted his kindness and involvement with DNP students. They also recognized his thorough explanations and supplemental resources and praised the way he challenges students to reach their full potential. They appreciated his dynamic integration of real-world examples and his ability to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Williams joined VUSN’s faculty in 2013 and is currently the course coordinator for LGBTI Health in Inter-professional Practice and a faculty co-advisor to VUSNPride. He also coordinates the DNP EBP and project course series. His scholarly interests include faculty development, impostor phenomenon, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, curriculum design, and the NONPF faculty institute committee.

The annual doctoral faculty award was established in 2013 in honor of Colleen Conway-Welch, who served the school as dean for 29 years.
