The Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has been named a National League of Nursing Center of Excellence in Nursing Education for its support of faculty pedagogical expertise. This is the second time the school has been so honored.
The five-year NLN Center of Excellence designation recognizes that VUSN demonstrates ongoing, dedicated excellence in developing and expanding faculty expertise in nursing education. The Center of Excellence program acknowledges outstanding innovation, commitment and sustainability of excellence by schools of nursing and health care organizations.
The nursing education honor will be celebrated Sept. 30 at the NLN Education Summit and Convocation in Washington, D.C.
“This is an impressive accomplishment, made possible by the many faculty and staff who work to help the School of Nursing remain a visionary leader in nursing education,” said Dean Pamela Jeffries, PhD, FAAN, ANEF, FSSH, Valere Potter Distinguished Professor of Nursing. “Being named a Center of Excellence recognizes our unwavering progress toward advancing nursing educational expertise for our faculty and the nursing profession.”
To be eligible for a COE designation, the School of Nursing needed to provide evidence that VUSN faculty promote excellence in teaching, student advisement and curriculum development, that interactions with students and colleagues promote innovation, and that faculty design and implement educational experiences that enhance student learning. Other requirements included goals related to excellence and innovation and faculty engagement in the community that supports enhanced student learning, professional development and advancement of the nursing profession.
