As we prepare to commemorate Veterans Day, Vanderbilt School of Nursing would like to introduce you to a veteran who is continuing her mission of service by becoming a family nurse practitioner. We proudly salute her and all our students, faculty, staff and alumni who are veterans, active military personnel and military family members. Thank you for your service, dedication and sacrifice.
U.S. Army combat veteran Mandi Mizner has devoted her life to serving her country and others. Following tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, she is currently a PreSpecialty student in the advanced practice nursing program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing and will become a family nurse practitioner. She and Nurse-Midwifery student Vanessa Thomsen-Johnson, a former U.S. Army Persian-Farsi linguist, are VUSN’s first two Bass Military Scholars.
In this video, Mizner discusses how the injury she sustained in combat inspired her to become a medevac helicopter pilot, and how her military service inspired her to serve a specific demographic within the U.S.
