Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Director Terri Allison, DNP, ACNP-BC, FAANP, received a Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners grant award to study the impact DNP-prepared nurse practitioners have on patient and organizational outcomes.
She and her co-researcher, Rene Love, PhD, DNP’10, MSN’98, PMHNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP, will examine how changes in education — specifically, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties recommendations that the DNP degree be the entry into practice for nurse practitioners — affects the growth and distribution of nurse practitioners in the workforce.
Allison anticipates that the results of this pilot work will be the foundation for a future study of larger employers of DNPs.
