Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has entered into an institutional subscription agreement to use ReelDX Education’s real patient video case studies in the School of Nursing’s nursing curriculum.
The School of Nursing will integrate ReelDx Education case studies into both their in-person and distance learning programs, including 24/7 access to ReelDx’s 500+ short videos of provider-filmed clinical encounters and curated content. Vanderbilt faculty will guide the adoption of ReelDx case studies into nursing curriculum, meeting synchronous and distance learning objectives for more than 800 students.
“Our faculty are excited about the opportunity to enhance written case studies with real patient video vignettes, making clinical topics vivid through real-world presentations,” said Betsy Weiner, PhD, RN, Senior Associate Dean for Informatics and Centennial Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing at Vanderbilt. “ReelDx Education videos offer our students substantial interactivity with case studies, along with highly engaging examples of how to apply clinical knowledge and skills. Increased interactivity is important to us as we enhance our instructional design principles to comply with Quality Matters standards.”
ReelDx Education provides health care educators easy, flexible options for presenting its clinical videos to learners: As pre-packaged case studies, including substantial case data and teaching points; or as stand-alone learning objects that can be streamed to the educator’s LMS or embedded in lecture presentations. Vanderbilt expects to utilize both approaches, with Blackboard integration as a primary objective for the 2015-2016 school year.
“Faculty who have used ReelDx Education report that it’s a powerful and efficient adjunct to any course curriculum,” says Dr. David Spiro, ReelDx Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer. “Faculty gain an ‘anchor’ case to make their content more relevant. Students absorb and retain key learnings through the observation of real case studies.”
ReelDx Education’s 500+ video case studies, covering 1,000+ topics, are created by contributors at Yale University, the University of Louisville, and Oregon Health & Science University, as well as clinics and ambulance agencies across the country and internationally. All cases are produced with explicit patient consent, strictly adhering to HIPAA-compliant processes.
