Gilmer has received numerous awards for her research and teaching expertise and has been a leader in several international health projects. She helped establish the core palliative care service at Vanderbilt’s Children’s Hospital and is director of the Pediatric Palliative Care Research team. Her newest project is advancing knowledge of pediatric oncology and animal assisted therapy in a groundbreaking study with the American Humane Association.
