Schorn Recognized by Shade Tree Clinic

Mavis Schorn, PhD, CNM, professor and senior associate dean for Academics at the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, will be honored at this year’s Shade Tree Clinic and Silent Auction on March 25.  Through the Shade Tree Clinic, medical and nursing students from Vanderbilt and Meharry receive valuable hands-on training while providing health care to those in need.

Every year, Shade Tree coordinators select a member of the faculty who exemplifies the character and community commitment that faculty tries to instill in students.  Schorn was chosen unanimously for her work in supporting the Shade Tree Early Pregnancy Program.

Schorn joined Vanderbilt in 2002 and has served as the director of VUSN’s Nurse-Midwifery Program for several years, as assistant dean of Academics and has practiced at West End Women’s Health Center.  In addition to this honor, she is a past recipient of VUMC’s Credo Award.

The Shade Tree Dinner and Auction take place on Wednesday, March 25.  Funds raised will help provide ongoing support for the clinic.  Tickets are available at www.vuconnect.com/STCDinner2015.
