- Poppy Pickering Buchanan, BSN’61, of Nashville passed away January 3, 2024. She and her husband, Richard, BA’57, MD’61, endowed a student research fund at the Vanderbilt University's Jean and Alexander Heard Library in 2018, and she received the Alumni Award for Excellence in Nursing from the VUSN Alumni Association in 2006.

- Carolyn Whitaker, BSN’62, MSN’72, of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee, passed away February 9, 2024. She was memorialized later that year in the Tennessee Nurse, including a reprint of her essay, “I AM TNA” from 2012 (page 9).

- Judy Jean Cox Chapman, BSN’63, of Nashville passed away September 8, 2025. She was honored as the VUSN Founder’s Medalist at her graduation.
- Ellen Durham Davis, BSN’63, authored the essay, “They Made Their Own Insulin: The Story of Eva and Viktor Saxl,” published by Hektoen International: A Journal of Medical Humanities in 2024. She is a lecturer in the Duke University School of Nursing endocrinology nurse practitioner program and for Duke Medicine Endocrinology, both in Durham, North Carolina. She lives near downtown Chapel Hill.

- Diane Welch Vines, BSN’67, was featured in Patch in 2023 in “CSUSB Palm Desert Nursing Instructor Honored By City,” for being honored by Palm Desert, California, with Dr. Diane Vines Day. That year, she received the Alma Gault Award for Public Service presented by the VUSN Alumni Association during the school’s annual awards ceremony, which was covered by Patch and California State University, San Bernardino News. She is founder and director of the CSUSB Nursing Street Medicine Program in Palm Desert.
