    School of Nursing graduates celebrated for resilience and accomplishment

    Vanderbilt University School of Nursing celebrated Commencement and Investiture Friday for those graduating in summer and fall 2021 and spring 2022. In total, 385 Master of Science in Nursing and 62 Doctor of Nursing Practice students graduated. An additional eight PhD in Nursing Science students received their degrees from Vanderbilt Graduate School. Read More

    Nurse Informaticist Tip Tilton named Nursing Founder's Medalist

    Master of Science in Nursing graduate Tip Tilton was selected as the School of Nursing's Founder's Medalist for the Class of 2022. The mother of two maintained a 4.0 cumulative GPA at Vanderbilt while earning her MSN in Nursing Informatics and working more than 40 hours a week as an RN quality improvement coordinator for John Muir Medical Center. She is now a clinical nurse informaticist at the Center for Digital Health Innovation at University of California, San Francisco. Read More

    Commencement 2020: Nurse-Midwifery Grad Vernicia Winford, MSN’20

    The first baby Vernicia Winford helped deliver into the world as a certified nurse-midwife was her own niece, born just a few days after the nursing graduate student passed her American Midwifery Certification Board exam last December. As a dual nurse-midwifery/family nurse practitioner student in the School of Nursing, Winford saw patients of all ages and genders in her clinical work at the Family Clinic in McMinnville, about 75 miles southeast of Nashville, while completing her FNP studies.     Brooke Faught, DNP, named 2019 Founder's Medalist

    The 2019 Founder’s Medalist for the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing was already a successful entrepreneur, institute director and nurse practitioner before earning her doctor of nursing practice. During her two-year doctor of nursing practice program at VUSN, Brooke Faught worked 60+ hours a week as director of the Women’s Institute for Sexual Health. The mother of three daughters (one with special needs), Brooke also volunteered in the community, gave professional presentations and served on the executive board of directors for two different professional organizations. Her DNP project focused on ways that providers might help young women with Down syndrome receive relevant and appropriate sexuality education. Read More

    The 2018 Founder’s Medalist for Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is Brenna Gillis, MSN’15, DNP. Gillis, who concluded her DNP work in August 2017, graduated with a 4.0 GPA — her second. Gillis is also an MSN alumna who earned a 4.0 in her master’s studies in 2015. Now a certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, Gillis provides mental health services to children, adolescents and adults in Rutherford County. Read More
