Experienced nurse practitioners can increase their education and expertise with an advanced content subspecialty certificate from Vanderbilt. These programs build on core NP education to equip nurse practitioners with targeted expertise that enables them to provide knowledgeable specialty care and meet the demand by employers nationwide. Designed for working professionals, these online courses feature online coursework and brief in-person immersions.
Applicants must have a master of science in nursing and require certification in specific disciplines, depending on the subspecialty. See each subspecialty for complete requirements.
Students currently enrolled at Vanderbilt may take subspecialty certificate courses as electives and gain specialized expertise in addition to their core NP education.
These certificates employ advanced-level coursework newly developed by the faculty experts at Vanderbilt School of Nursing. These are not continuing education courses—these certificates are rigorous academic programs that appear on your academic transcript.
The subspecialty certificates are created and taught by Vanderbilt’s world-class faculty—some of whom wrote the textbook in their areas of specialization.
Students will be prepared to diagnose and manage a variety of subspecialty conditions encountered in clinical practice. They’ll integrate advanced assessment skills, diagnostic reasoning and evidence-based guidelines in patient-centered care.
The program consists of two 3-credit-hour didactic courses plus 3 credit hours of lab and immersion experiences.
