Bio

Shannon Portis is a Lecturer in Nursing in the Pre-Specialty Program at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. Teaching in the clinical and laboratory courses for generalist nursing students, Shannon facilitates learning and assists the establishment of nursing foundations, healthcare teamwork and nursing relationships. Shannon is passionate about increasing health literacy among underserved populations, increasing health equity among minority populations, and increasing education concerning the science of patient care and the humanistic approach. She has clinical experience with the Chronically Critically Ill, in High Risk Obstetrics and Gynecology, and General Surgery. Her current practice is in the OB Float Pool where she works in Labor & Delivery, NICU, Antepartum, and Postpartum.
