Rick Watters   PhD, RN

Interim Director, Nursing and Health Care Leadership

Bio

Rick is a PhD prepared registered nurse. He completed his PhD studies at the University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. Rick?s professional nursing career has involved educating nursing students in undergraduate and graduate programs of study in Australia, Canada and the United States as well as undergraduate students in the United Arab Emirates. 

In addition, Rick has held a number of leadership positions including Director of Quality, Director of Research and Education, and Chief Nursing Officer. 

He is the interim academic director for the Nursing and Health Care Leadership MSN program and currently teaches in the MSN and DNP programs at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

Current Research/Scholarly Interests

The focus of his research interests is to evaluate MSN and DNP nursing students' attitudes, perceived support from their professional network, self-efficacy, knowledge and implementation of EBP in the practice setting. The objective is to develop and enhance the teaching and learning methodology in these programs of study to support students' utilization of evidence-based practice.
