Kelly Aldrich   DNP, MS, RN-BC, FHIMSS

Dr. Aldrich is an Informatics Instructor for the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She is a board-certified Informatics Nurse Specialist and has served over 35 years in healthcare clinical, leadership and informatics roles. She is known as a visionary Nursing Informatics Executive leader and is regarded for her innovative solutions dedicated to providing a bridge between clinical practice and technology solutions that best support current patient care practices, as well as find new solutions to solve care environment interoperability hazards and burdens today?s healthcare teams face. Serving over twenty years of her career at the bedside in cardiac and trauma critical care settings has provided her with the foundation of leading transformational informatics adoption. Her passion and dedication for a seamless patient-centered care environment from an informatics lens has led to safer, more efficient and effective care environments. 

Dr. Aldrich currently serves as the Chief Clinical Digital Officer for the Center for Medical Interoperability and prior to this role was the inaugural Chief Nursing Informatics Officer for HCA for over 170+ hospitals. Publications include focus on Nursing documentation standards, highly reliable technology innovation introducing the model of BELT, Blending Education Leadership and Technology and interoperability. Dr. Aldrich has served on numerous ONC task forces, including interoperability experience, standards, cybersecurity and contributes to the HIMSS data intelligence and nursing informatic executive committees on a national level. In her Vanderbilt role she teaches Nursing Informatics at the masters and doctoral level with a lively focus on interoperability, usability and advocating for front line clinicians who need data liquidity to provide person centered care.

Current Projects

  • Working within the Center for Medical Interoperability (C4MI), partnering with CDC, NPPTL to develop a trusted monitoring and surveillance system for personal protective equipment (PPE). TOGETHER for PPE Readiness, providing real-time information from hospitals to advance outcomes in preparedness
