Bio

Brittany Haskell joined the Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty in 2015, coming from a diverse clinical practice background in psychiatry. As a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner, Haskell has worked in a range of inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings with a focus on adult patients with a mood related diagnosis. She considers it a privilege to join her patients on their journey towards a healthier well-being. Currently, she works in an outpatient psychiatric practice serving adults in the Nashville community As an Assistant Professor of Nursing, she focuses on legal and ethical considerations related to nursing practice, along with meeting the health-related needs of populations in the community setting.
Teaching Philosophy: My role as a nursing educator involves transmission of my content expertise by guiding learners towards necessary skills to take charge of their own learning. I believe it is necessary to prioritize the learning process rather than the outcome to guide learners from facts and principles to higher order thinking. My goal is to for learners to identify and understand personal biases and value the human being beyond their diagnosis to provide holistic care as they enter clinical practice. My intention is for our graduating nurses to value the enrichment, utility, and necessity of lifelong learning.
