Mavis Schorn, PhD, CNM, has been named assistant dean for Academics at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing. She will also continue to serve as program director for VUSN’s Nurse-Midwifery Program, one of the School’s largest specialty tracks that was recently ranked No. 3 in U.S. News and World Report.
In this newly created role, Schorn will assist Senior Associate Dean Linda Norman, DSN, RN, with an increasing amount of academic initiatives that require collaboration with other schools and degree programs within Vanderbilt and across the health care community.
“With the School of Nursing’s growth over the past five years, including having four degree programs and more than 800 students, the academic and administrative needs have increased,” said Norman. “Mavis will ensure we have consistent coordination so we can make the most of our many opportunities.”
Among other projects, Schorn will deepen her involvement with the Vanderbilt University Global Health Initiative as well as with the Interprofessional Learning Fellowship program.
“Mavis is well respected by her peers and is the ideal person for this position,” said Norman. Schorn has headed the VUSN Nurse-Midwifery program since 2006 and has been in clinical practice since 1990.
