Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is ranked as the #8 graduate school of nursing for its MSN and #6 for its DNP, according to U.S. News & World Report. We are also next door to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, one of the nation’s top academic medical centers. But most importantly, we are committed to the success of our students. We offer a rigorous curriculum taught by doctorally prepared faculty who are passionate about the contributions these dual certified practitioners make to society. Our students benefit from close student-to-faculty ratios, personalized attention and hands-on learning, side-by-side with seasoned health care providers. You will also benefit from your classmates who bring diverse backgrounds and experiences that will enrich your learning experience.
Ours is a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that includes content from both specialty areas and requires just one additional semester of study for full-time students. The further breadth of scope is well worth the extra courses. We combine traditional classroom settings, simulated experiences and clinical training, you will develop deep primary care knowledge and clinical reasoning skills. You will also learn about promoting and maintaining wellness. You will be exposed to a group of faculty members who combine classroom instruction with hands-on clinical practice experience for a wider frame of reference.
Graduation from this dual MSN specialty prepares you to take the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner certification exam offered by The National Certification Corporation and the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner certification exam offered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Our students consistently score above national rates on both of these exams. (Certification pass rates)
