Staff Advisory Council (SAC)

Mission

The School of Nursing Staff Advisory Council, a representative body of non-faculty employees, works to promote staff visibility and participation in the governance of the school, and foster a healthy work environment of networking and camaraderie among all staff. Toward this effort, the Council serves as an advisory group to the Dean and Dean’s Leadership Team on issues, policies, and practices that affect staff members, bringing their unique perspective and fresh ideas to the process.

Purpose

The purpose of the Council is to promote the welfare of the School of Nursing and its staff members, while enhancing the presence of the staff in the School. To realize this purpose, the Council will:

1. Improve working climate by promoting staff wellness, and supporting opportunities for professional development.
2. Advocate for staff and participate in decision-making processes that affect Faculty/Staff and School/Staff relationships acting in an advisory capacity to the Dean, the Dean’s Leadership Team, Executive Committee, and other faculty leaders
3. Provide safe and open channels of communication (e.g. meetings with steering committee member(s), full body meetings, anonymous online form, email) where staff can address and discuss issues that are important to them.
4. Contribute to making the School of Nursing a transparent, efficient, and attractive work environment and share creative ideas for programs, policies, and other projects that can enhance the VUSN community overall.
5. Encourage a sense of pride and solidarity amongst staff by fostering relationships across departments, and providing opportunities for continuous career-specific, and other professional learning, while highlighting how integral staff are to the success of the school.
6. Promote and support all school initiatives for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
