Faculty Practice

A key reason Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty are renowned experts in their fields is because they continue to practice in their specialties. This means students learn from the latest best practices, and health care benefits from practitioners who stay current with advances in knowledge.

Every year, clinical faculty from the School of Nursing practice in Middle Tennessee at agencies, clinics, hospitals, private practices, mental health agencies, health systems, and the VA.

A large number of faculty choose to practice in the VUSN Faculty Practice Network. Through its partnership with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, the Vanderbilt School of Nursing operates one of the most extensive faculty practice networks anywhere. VUSN students work alongside practicing faculty in clinical settings like these to gain hands-on experience in delivering health care services and patient care.

VUSN and VUMC nurse-managed clinic sites include

  • Employer health primary care centers
  • Women’s health centers
  • Nurse-midwifery practices
  • Birthing center
  • Neighborhood clinics

One of the largest nurse-managed practice is Vanderbilt Faculty Nurse-Midwives, which has several locations and offers pregnancy and birth experiences that are flexible and emphasize personal attention.
