The Vanderbilt University School of Nursing Center for Gerontological Nursing Excellence (VCGNE) consists of educators, researchers, and clinicians who are committed to providing excellent health care to older adults in the middle Tennessee area and beyond. VCGNE is proud to be a member of the National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE). The mission of the VCGNE is to promote the development of nursing clinical leaders, faculty, and researchers to enhance gerontological nursing across the continuum of care.
- Support and mentor students, fellows, and faculty for research, teaching, practice, and informatics.
- Disseminate scholarly work through professional meetings, conferences and professional literature.
- Promote interprofessional geriatric focused partnerships in the community.

What is your Current title/role at VUSN?
Assistant Professor/teaching faculty in the MSN & DNP program, advising DNP students, and conducting research with Vanderbilt Center for Quality Aging researchers and recently with VU School of Engineering
What motivated you to enter the field of gerontological nursing?
Appreciation for the wealth of experience and knowledge from my grandparents and great aunts (nurses), my personal experience as caring for my Aunt Lena, who had dementia.
What is your favorite part of your job?
As faculty, it's very gratifying to witness the professional growth of DNP students, our upcoming change agents in health care.
From the research role-I am blessed to meet the most interesting older adults. I learn so much about history and cultures as they share their life experiences.
Do you have a favorite older adult in tv show, movie, or book?
Judy Dench –very talented, spunky lady; she plays such a spectrum of characters. For those who don’t know her she played M in the James Bond films and a myriad of English movies-Ladies in Lavender was wonderful.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
Music (singing, piano, harp, currently taking dulcimer lessons) spending time with family (adult children and grandchildren), gardening, learning to quilt, fishing
