The Center for Research Development and Scholarship (CRDS) at Vanderbilt University’s School of Nursing (VUSN) is pleased to announce one (1) Postdoctoral Fellow opening.

We have a postdoctoral opening within any one of our signature areas: Acute and Chronic Illness; Data Science and Health Technologies; Palliative Care Science; Pregnancy Outcomes, Mother & Infant Health, Family Health. However, we are currently targeting the area of cancer and cancer survivorship. This position will provide a mentored training experience in cancer research and intervention development as part of the preparation for an academic position. Training opportunities will be related to specific cancer and cancer survivorship in patients with head and neck cancer, breast cancer, and vulnerable populations. As with all positions, the fellow’s expertise and area of interest should closely match with a CRDS-affiliated faculty mentor in their area of research.

Activities for this position will include day-to-day oversight of research study activities, preparing research study protocols and materials, grant writing, assisting with data collection and analysis, disseminating research findings, developing scientific manuscripts as lead author or co-author, presenting research findings at conferences, and performing other related duties. Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work as a team member, and experience conducting clinical studies and constructing Institutional Review Board applications are essential. It is expected that applicants with submit for external funding.

Eligibility

The Postdoctoral Program at Vanderbilt School of Nursing is open to nurses who have completed a doctoral program (PhD) within the past two years who are eligible for U.S. employment and able to physically relocate to Nashville, TN.

  2. Curriculum Vitae (links to publications).
  3. Three letters of recommendation, one of which is from a representative of the applicant’s dissertation committee. Letters should address the applicants’ scholarly abilities, area for growth, and future potential in academia and emailed directly from the recommender to VUSNpostdoc@vanderbilt.edu.
  4. Cover letter (2-5 pages single-spaced) that describes previous research experience, goals for postdoctoral training and career, focus/area of research and a VUSN faculty member who could potentially serve as mentor, expectations/needs during mentorship, and an idea for potential research project to carry out during the postdoctoral training (feasible to conduct in about two years). Applicant should highlight their skills and potential contributions to a research team.

Selection of fellows rests heavily on a strong match between the candidate and faculty mentor.
