Bio

Dr. Mavis Schorn is a Professor, Senior Associate Dean for Academics and a nurse-midwife in the faculty practice at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing.

Dr. Schorn is responsible for curricular and faculty oversight and evaluation, identifying and implementing academic strategic direction, and serving as the academic representative to the university and to external stakeholders. She serves as a leader in interprofessional education through participation in activities such as the Vanderbilt University Medical Center interprofessional student-run clinic, Vanderbilt Program for Interprofessional Learning, and the Vanderbilt-Meharry Alliance Interprofessional Education Collaboration. She manages both small funded projects and over $5M in federal Health Resources and Service Administration grants.

Her research interests include the third stage of labor, teaching methods, and advanced practice nursing policy. She is fellow in the American College of Nurse-Midwives, American Academy of Nursing, and the National Academies of Practice.
