The purpose of this article is to explain how to create a long answer question in the Brightspace Quiz tool.
The Long Answer Question is the only question type that cannot be automatically graded by Brightspace. Answers to these questions must be manually graded by an instructor.

Create Question
Step 1
Select question type
- Navigate to the new question page from a specific quiz or the Question Library
- Select Written Response (WR)
Step 2
Create your question
- Enter the Question Text
- Select Enable the HTML Editor for student responses if you want to give students options for formatting and inserting stuff into their answer. When this option is disabled, students will have a large text box in which to write their responses.
- Enter Default Points (this can be edited later if you are unsure)
- Question preview appears on the right side of the screen
- Click

TIP: In order for students to see the hint when taking the quiz, Allow hints must be enabled on the Properties tab
