Welcome to Scholarly Nurse
What follows is the latest installment of Scholarly Nurse that highlights Vanderbilt University School of Nursing’s faculty research and scholarly activities from the fall 2014 semester. In addition to showcasing a sampling of faculty, this is our first issue to include works by our DNP and PhD students – an important group whose works we will include from this point forward.
As you will see, our faculty and doctoral students have been hard at work producing, sharing and contributing to nursing knowledge. These activities emphasize Vanderbilt School of Nursing’s commitment to scholarly work. We believe that science and evidence are the foundation of everything we do and that they are the engine that keeps the advancement of nursing science running.
Each issue we take a closer look at faculty researchers. This issue we feature the work of Assistant Professor Todd Monroe, PhD, RN, FAAN. His current grants are funded from the National Institute of Health/National Institute of Aging and the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) and examine pain in older adults with and without Alzheimer’s disease.

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing faculty member Todd Monroe, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, assistant professor of nursing, is currently funded from the National Institute of Health/National Institute of Aging and the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) to examine pain in older adults with and without Alzheimer’s disease.
